It all
started off when, for my 5Xth Birthday, some friends decided that
they would give me a very special present. They organised a session at a
recording studio down in London in order for me to record a few tracks, which
they would then get put onto a CD.
Originally
we’d anticipated I might record three or four songs in the afternoon. However,
fortified with several bottles of Guinness, Andy, the sound engineer, and I
ploughed on and just kept recording….
Eventually
after 3 hours we ended up, with 12 songs and so what we’d initially expected to
be a quarter of an hour’s worth of songs became a full album!
They’re
were very much straight recordings, warts and all, none of this messing around
with patching verses in and re-doing little bits of the songs. Each one was
recorded in its entirety, the only thing we did do was to re-record a whole
song or two when I’d forgotten the words.
After
I’d finished laying down the vocals (getting into this recording patter) Andy
and some of his friends got to work with their contributions.
So here
it is, a few of my favourite songs, much enhanced by the musical talents and
skills of others. It’s not a published album as such, just a bit of fun and not
to be taken as too seriously.
The cover design consists of an old map of Huntingdonshire, which I can be pretty sure is long out of copyright!!
The Mugs, mine excluded, are ones that were made for
the St Neots Folk Festival. The tall one is in fact a three-pint mug, though
happily some landlords can be persuaded that it’s only a quart pot. A friend of
mine who is a professional potter made three of them to commemorate both the 3rd
Festival and the fact that for the first time we had a Real Ale bar there.
My thanks to everyone who helped and especially to my friends who arranged it for me.
I can
only hope anyone listening to it will get at least some of the pleasure that I
did in making it.
